The centre's problem is traffic film: a grey, oily layer that ordinary washing smears rather than removes, and that shows worst on large commercial panes. Along the seafront it is salt. Port air and onshore breeze dry onto balcony glass and railing balustrades at La Malagueta as a stubborn white haze. Eastwards, shaded patios in the beach barrios collect fine dust that calima episodes top up each spring.
